“Checked against official text” means the words were compared with the official source and matched it. It does not mean the tool picked the right section for your question, so read the cited section.
02 How We Verify
Every document is compared with its official source when it is loaded: web text letter by letter, PDFs checked against the official text, tables value by value. A table we have not verified is never quoted; we point to the official table instead. Jurisdictions are also re-compared against freshly downloaded official text, and any mismatch is fixed or explained. Prince Edward Island, Yukon and Nunavut have not yet had that re-comparison.
What “verbatim” means. Almost every section matches the official text exactly. The rest fall into one of five exceptions, all listed here.

Nothing else is paraphrased, summarized or invented. The plain-language answer is always shown separately from the cited section, and the section is the authority.
03 Limitations
What's not in here
- Binding law only. Not guidance, codes of practice, policies or interpretation guides from safety authorities.
- Not the codes and standards a regulation refers to. Fire, building and electrical codes, CSA or NFPA standards, transport of dangerous goods and workers’ compensation rules are not included. The cited section shows when one applies; get it from the body that publishes it.
- Some rules sit in policy, not law. For example Ontario’s first-aid requirements (Regulation 1101, under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act) and WorkSafeBC’s bullying-and-harassment policies. Answers on these may cover only the general duty.
- Northwest Territories mining law (its Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations) is not included yet. Mine questions there are pointed to it.
- Federally regulated workplaces (banks, airlines, interprovincial transport) follow the Canada Labour Code, which is not included.
- New amendments can lag. We check most official consolidations automatically every week and the rest by hand, but an amendment appears in the government gazette first and can take weeks to reach the consolidation.
How an answer can go wrong
- The plain-language answer is a summary, not a legal interpretation. The cited section is the authority.
- The search can miss the best match or pick a related section. Every answer cites its source so you can check.
- Ask one thing at a time. A question with several parts may be answered fully for one and partly for another, so its confidence label is capped below “High”.
Special cases
- Exposure limits are given by pointer, not by number. An exposure-limit question names the right table and links to it instead of quoting a ppm or mg/m³ value. One wrong digit in a table of hundreds of substances costs too much.
